What Are VOCs?
Volatile organic compounds – otherwise known as VOCs – are a variety of compounds that are emitted as gases from certain types of solids and liquids. The concentration of VOCs can be particularly high indoors (up to 10x higher than outdoors) and can be emitted from a vast amount of household products. Wax, paints, and varnishes all contain organic solvents, as well as degreasing, hobby, cleaning, cosmetic, and disinfecting products. These are just some of the products that can contain VOCs: Pesticide Hobby supplies Moth repellants Air fresheners Wood preservatives Aerosol sprays Paints, paint strippers, and other solvents Building materials […]
Polymer Supplier and Adhesive Manufacturer
The world of polymers is wide and varied, with many moving parts. There are hundreds of applications for our water based acrylic polymers in a variety of fields. A polymer, simply put, is a macromolecule comprised of many smaller molecules called monomers. These molecules react among themselves chemically to form long chain or three-dimensional networks. Both natural and synthetic polymers play a very important role in our day-to-day lives. The most commonly available polymer found in nature is cellulose, which is formed from the monomer glucose. Over 75% of most plant bodies are composed of cellulose. As an adhesive supplier and […]
Acrylic Polymers in the Healthcare Industry
Acrylic polymer, derived from the monomer methyl methacrylate (MMA), was first developed more than 60 years ago. Since then, formulations have extended the material’s performance range, resulting in varying levels of melt flow, impact resistance, colorability, gamma recovery, and other controlled characteristics. General-purpose acrylic grades contain a comonomer, added during the polymerization process, to facilitate flow during injection molding and extrusion. Specialty grades are formulated to perform in applications requiring high impact strength and heat resistance. UV-light-transmitting formulations are also available, and are specified for certain critical diagnostic equipment in which even slight UV absorption or variation in material flow […]
Top 10 Vinyl Applications We’re Sure You’ve Heard About
Everywhere you look, you see vinyl. A bus whizzes by you on the street, you walk into a fast food restaurant or walk into a suite in a corporate office building, it is all around you.Wiring and CablesLook around the room and you are bound to see lots of cables. A lot of cables are coated in vinyl because they are able to withstand tough conditions such as moisture and temperature. PVC is an excellent insulator on electrical wires. Manufacturers love it because it is affordable and very heat resistant. It is also chemical and oil resistant, impact resistant, elastic, […]
Everything You Need To Know About Acrylic Paint
Acrylic paint is our bread and butter here at Gellner Industrial. We create a variety of acrylic polymers for paints, including 25-50E, which converts into low cost solution polymer for pigment grinding and high gloss flexo and gravure inks, C5-58, which is used as a binder for house paints and binder for pigment dispersion, M-49, which is used for metallic ink or paint vehicle and has exceptional stability and brilliance with metallic pigments, and S-50, an emulsion polymer with good adhesion to nonporous surfaces. All of these acrylic polymers for paints, as well as acrylic polymers for paints are painstakingly […]
Advantages To Using Water Based Acrylic Polymers
There are many benefits to using high-performance resins and chemicals developed with water-based acrylic industrial polymers. Some primary benefits include that they are easy to work with, good for the environment and showcase a large variety of industrial applications including industrial coatings, printing inks, and high-gloss varnishes.Other Types of Acrylic PolymersHowever, you may wonder what the alternative to water-based acrylic polymers is. Well, you could use a solvent based product. So what does that mean? Well, fifty years ago, virtually all paint and the polymers behind it were solvent based. Sometimes referred to as “Oil-based” or “Alkyd” paints, solvent-based coatings […]
