Environmental Impact and Sustainability of Acrylic Binders

The impact of manufactured and developed products on the environment has become an increasingly prevalent issue, especially in chemical development and manufacturing. The push for more sustainable and less harmful products in everyday products such as paints and binders has also resulted in significantly safer water-based acrylic binders for paints, industrial coatings, and much more. 

Gellner Industrial has been one of the chemical manufacturers at the forefront of water-based acrylic binders, developing a wide range of solution and emulsion acrylic polymers that act as binders for various paints and coatings. Traditional paint binders tended to contain toxic or harmful components, or they would release Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) which are harmful to both the environment and to the user. That’s why we focus on water-based acrylics, which are generally low VOC and much safer for users and the environment alike. 

One of the major drawbacks, initially, for water-based acrylic binders was reduced adhesion compared to traditional chemicals. Water-based polymers, for a long time, just couldn’t offer the level of adhesion necessary for paints and coatings. Over the years though, Gellner’s team has developed and continued to perfect our water-based acrylic binders. Now we offer products that outperform conventional resins in areas of flow, hold-out, gloss, and solubility, while still having a lower environmental impact than traditional binders. 

Gellner’s acrylic binders offer excellent adhesion to a range of substrates, both indoors and out. Our binders for outdoor coating applications have superior weatherability and color stability, keeping their color and adhesion even when exposed to UV, chemicals, abrasion, and harsh weather conditions. Acrylic binders for indoor paints also impart excellent adhesion, and resist everyday wear and tear while being much safer for consumer use than traditional products.
