No matter the environment, be it an indoor residential building, an industrial factory or warehouse, an outdoor deck, or even a boat launch and dock, wooden substrates should be sealed against the elements, and that includes furniture as well. Wood furniture sealers sink into the open spaces of the wood, between the grains, and cure into a smooth, protective barrier that keeps out moisture and other contaminants. Some improve adhesion for later coatings, while others improve surface maintenance and help prevent staining. Picking the right type of wood sealer for the right environment saves time, money, and stress in the […]

The concept of self-healing paints and primers is not something new to the coatings industry. Many different markets put significant resources into the research of various types of self-healing mechanisms for paints, whether for automobiles, highly technological medical devices, or exterior building facades. In a previous blog post, we explored the concept and general advantages of self-healing paints. Today, we take a look at the specific advantages that self-healing primers and paints have to offer residential and household bathrooms.  Moisture: The Biggest Challenge Facing Bathroom Paints and Primers Household bathrooms pose many difficulties to paints, primers, and coatings, but moisture […]

Concrete has long been a crucial substrate for indoor and outdoor spaces, in commercial, residential, and industrial constructions, both walls and flooring. Concrete is a staple material, being cost-effective and relatively simple to maintain once sealed. However, a more recent trend in concrete flooring especially involves the use of concrete not as a go-to floor for garages and basements, but as a decorative surface.  The Challenges of Decorating with Concrete Glossy concrete has grown in popularity across modern commercial and residential buildings due to its shine and versatility in appearance, colors, and textures. However, the porous nature of concrete makes […]

Penetrating concrete sealers are a type of sealer that works by soaking into the pores of a concrete substrate, rather than creating a sealed topcoat. They’re a popular choice for applications that want to keep the appearance of concrete and don’t require resistance to high impact and abrasion.Gellner Industrial has developed several water-based acrylic polymers perfect for formulating into high-performance concrete sealers. One of our newer products, Ottopol WRX-40, is a self-crosslinking polymer capable of being made into a variety of solvent-resistant coatings, including a penetrating concrete sealer. How a Penetrating Concrete Sealer Differs from a Film-Forming SealerConcrete sealers typically fall […]

How to Select Durable and Moisture-Resistant Basement Wall Coatings In this article, we’re taking a look at the different types of paints best suited for use on the walls of basements–and what Gellner has to offer the coatings industry when it comes to concrete and similar substrates.  The Challenge of Maintaining and Painting Concrete Basement Walls Coating and maintaining concrete basement walls presents a few challenges. First, concrete substrates tend to be difficult to coat. As we’ve discussed in a previous article, concrete is a porous material, so even though it makes for a strong substrate and durable material for […]

Gellner Industrial, LLC is proud to celebrate over 45 years of innovation in water-based acrylic polymers, a major milestone for our company. We’ve grown significantly from our humble beginnings, with a long history of overcoming challenges and expanding our business until we became the company that we are today.  The Early Days: An Innovative Start in a Difficult Economy In March of 1980, Otto Gellner started what would eventually become Gellner Industrial in a modest 750 sq ft lab in Millington, NJ. At the time, starting a business was difficult–high inflation and interest rates had become a major problem for […]

Wood furniture is a common fixture of many households and commercial properties, but it goes through a lot. Beverage stains, cleaning products, scratching, abrasions–our furniture has to deal with many different types of damage, whether it’s household furniture, commercial furniture, or wooden furniture used in industrial environments. And any paint or coating used on wooden furniture needs to resist these various types of stains and damage in order to preserve the aesthetics of the furniture for a long time to come. That’s where our acrylic resin, Ottopol SF-45 comes in, and that’s what this article is all about. Ottopol SF-45: A Clear […]
