Celebrating Nearly Half a Century of Innovation at Gellner Industrial
Gellner Industrial, LLC is proud to celebrate over 45 years of innovation in water-based acrylic polymers, a major milestone for our company. We’ve grown significantly from our humble beginnings, with a long history of overcoming challenges and expanding our business until we became the company that we are today.
The Early Days: An Innovative Start in a Difficult Economy
In March of 1980, Otto Gellner started what would eventually become Gellner Industrial in a modest 750 sq ft lab in Millington, NJ. At the time, starting a business was difficult–high inflation and interest rates had become a major problem for many small businesses. However, that didn’t stop Otto Gellner. Shortly after starting his business, he invented cationic water-based acrylic polymers, a new technology at the time that innovated the graphic arts industry with performance benefits not previously available with current polymer systems of the time.
Expanding into a New Location
The company continued to grow from there, with the addition of Otto’s son, Robert Gellner joining the company in 1987 and working his way up. Over the next decade, expanding into toll manufacturing and taking advantage of a tolling production facility in South Carolina–but quickly started to outgrow their capabilities. In 1994, Gellner entertained the idea of building a new facility, as there were limitations on what could be produced in the shared South Carolina plant. And in 1997, construction on a facility in Hometown PA began, and was completed in March of 2000.
The Twenty-First Century
Gellner Industrial LLC continued to expand, adding a new product storage facility to complement bulk shipments both domestic and abroad in 2008. By 2015, production had increased by close to 200% thanks to strong partnerships and an expanding customer base. In 2023, we even increased our bulk raw material storage capacity in order to accommodate that growing demand for our products, especially as our industry presence had evolved into include industrial coatings, indoor and outdoor paints and primers, and the graphic arts.
